Gunnar Fredrik Greiber, born 1919 in Stockholm, died 2011 in Stockholm, was a Swedish painter.
Greiber began drawing as a child and was self-taught as an artist but was influenced by earlier and contemporary artists. He made his debut in an exhibition at Modern konst i hemmiljö in Stockholm in 1959 and subsequently had several successful exhibitions in Stockholm in the 1960s and 1970s, including at Liljevalchs Stockholmssalong 1962-1965, Moderna Museet's traveling exhibition Konst i skolan 1963, and at Sveagalleriet, 1968, 1971 and 1980. His art consists of checkerboard-patterned oil paintings of birds, flowers and women. In addition to his own work, he led art courses in Grängsjö. He wanted to create a debate about the value of art and in 2004 he advertised one of his paintings for SEK 10 million just to hear the public's reaction to the value of art. In 1990, Christer Fällman wrote the book The Painter Who Got on the Wrong Train, which discusses Greiber's art and life. Greiber is represented at Moderna Museet[1], Västerås Art Museum, Sundsvall Museum, Östersund Museum and Hudiksvall Museum. At the Hälsingland Museum, a selection of his square paintings was shown in a memorial exhibition in 2016.
