Although the best-known part of Laukkanen's output consists of abstract sculptures, in the early and late stages of his career he also made figurative sculptures in both stone and bronze, including female figures. In 1980, Helsinki Art Hall hosted an extensive memorial exhibition of Laukkanen's works, which he had bequeathed to the Finnish Artists' Association.
